Airtel Reports Fibre Cuts Disrupting Services Across Multiple States

Airtel Reports Fibre Cuts Disrupting Services Across Multiple States

Telecommunications provider, Airtel Nigeria, has announced a widespread network disruption affecting several states across the country due to multiple fibre cuts.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the company disclosed that the incident has impacted service delivery in Adamawa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Gombe, Katsina, Kebbi, and parts of northern Nigeria, leaving many subscribers experiencing poor connectivity and intermittent outages.

According to Airtel, the disruption was traced to damage on its fibre infrastructure, a critical component responsible for transmitting voice and data services across its network. The company attributed the cuts to external interference, including construction activities and unintentional damage by third parties.

“We regret the inconvenience caused to our valued customers. Our technical teams have been fully mobilised and are currently working round the clock to restore services as quickly as possible,” the statement read.

The telecom operator assured subscribers that efforts are ongoing to reroute traffic and repair the affected fibre links to minimise downtime. It also reiterated its commitment to delivering reliable and high-quality services nationwide.

Industry observers note that fibre cuts remain a major challenge for telecom operators in Nigeria, often resulting in large-scale service disruptions when key transmission lines are compromised.

Airtel urged the public and relevant stakeholders to help protect telecommunications infrastructure, stressing that such facilities are vital to national communication, economic activities, and emergency services.

As of the time of filing this report, partial restoration had begun in some affected areas, while full service recovery is expected once repairs are completed.
